I recently helped a friend get her donated printed working with her Mac, and guess what, it was just as hard as with a PC -- I had to download a driver! (Remember that commercial about a Mac saving Christmas? Wrong!) Except that the printer company's site had an app to find the right driver, but only for PCs, so it was much harder to find the right driver.
And, like you, I couldn't make a living on a Mac, writing as I do about programs that either work only on a PC (AutoCAD), or have a 3-5% market share on the Mac (PowerPoint).Ellen Finkelsteinhttp://www.ellenfinkelstein.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9086585124123876741.post-62911203364738847472009-05-01T16:43:00.000-07:002009-05-01T16:43:00.000-07:00Thanks for your comment, Anonymous, but maybe I sh...Thanks for your comment, Anonymous, but maybe I should have added that without the annoyances of the PC, I wouldn't earn much because writing about Microsoft products is my main source of income.

Glad the Mac is working for you -- just don't make it a religious experience.Tom Bunzelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08728020753200148802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9086585124123876741.post-11886386178426000112009-05-01T11:27:00.000-07:002009-05-01T11:27:00.000-07:00I have a macbook, iMac and 3 year old Gateway lapt...I have a macbook, iMac and 3 year old Gateway laptop running XP. Many years ago (early 80's) I did my work on macs, then everything and all business went PC so I had to follow. When my XP started down the path of no return (when it turned 3 and Microsoft's built in obsolescence started rearing its ugly head) and I realized I would not be able to get another laptop with XP because Windows stopped supporting it, I bought macs again. (I had bought my daughter a windows Vista laptop the previous year because it was cheap. But it was so hard to use after XP, it basically sits unused while she uses my macs -- so I knew what I would be getting into with Vista.)

I too am my own system administrator and tech support for a family of four as well as elderly parents...

Macs may have their problems (I haven't encountered anything difficult yet), but the biggest one I've found is the initial disbelief of using one "wait, it *can't* be this simple..." but it is.

Get a Mac!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9086585124123876741.post-14769368426622691522009-04-22T13:44:00.000-07:002009-04-22T13:44:00.000-07:00but seriously, this reminds me of the Gadfly Beaco...but seriously, this reminds me of the Gadfly Beacon columns you wrote... and a mac would seriously cut down on all complaints... and on your columns... so please continue to suffer in vista-landDorianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04304546906321402095noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9086585124123876741.post-18180840720555485122009-04-22T13:40:00.000-07:002009-04-22T13:40:00.000-07:00get a macget a macDorianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04304546906321402095noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9086585124123876741.post-89533826939816609212009-04-22T13:18:00.000-07:002009-04-22T13:18:00.000-07:00LOL i guess I'm glad i have an old computer and do...LOL i guess I'm glad i have an old computer and don't use VISTA the devil seed!Lilli Bluehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01725906955221852431noreply@blogger.com
